What is Body Mass Index (BMI)?
Forget the magazines with pictures of skinny female models (or buff male ones) you need a "real world" way of deciding whether your weight is right for you or not, meant for real people. BMI is an objective measure that can help you do just that!

Body mass index (BMI) is a figure calculated from your height and weight. Doctors often use BMI as an objective indicator of whether a person is overweight, underweight or at a healthy weight, and it is recommended by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for this purpose.

Note: This BMI calculation is intended for adults, not children. In particular, for individuals less than 5 feet tall, the calculation is likely to overestimate body fat. Please see the disclaimer below.
